US to speed up missile program after INF treaty exit

Washington: The USA is to speed up its improvement of recent cruise and ballistic missile programs following its withdrawal from a nuclear treaty with Russia, the Pentagon mentioned on Friday.

Accusing Russia of “sustained and repeated violations” of the Intermediate-Vary Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty, Protection Secretary Mark Esper mentioned the US had already begun work to develop “cellular, typical, ground-launched cruise and ballistic missile programs.”

As the US had “scrupulously complied” with its obligations to the 1987 treaty till its formal withdrawal, “these applications are within the early phases,” Esper mentioned in a press release.

“Now that we have now withdrawn, the Division of Protection will absolutely pursue the event of those ground-launched typical missiles as a prudent response to Russia’s actions.
