ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Information, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, strongly criticized the statement of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, calling it interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs, ARY News reported.

Firdous Ashiq Awan, in his Twitter messages, said that the recent tweets of the President of Afghanistan amounted to interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs and should not violate international law.

She said that Pakistan is promoting peace and stability in the region and that the country has always shown a desire to carry out joint efforts for peacemaking along with its neighboring Afghanistan.

Awan added that the Pakistani nation and its brave armed forces made sacrifices for the establishment of peace and the criminals could not be allowed to carry out anti-peace activities throughout the country. She said the law will find its way against malefactors.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ashraf Ghani had made a controversial statement about the arrest of the head of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), Manzoor Pashteen, who yesterday had been taken into Peshawar custody.

Expressing serious concerns about the recent tweets of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) on Monday also called it a clear interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs and, therefore, unjustified.

In a statement, FO spokeswoman Aisha Farooqui said they believe such statements are not useful for promoting good neighborhood relations between the two countries.

She said Pakistan wishes to maintain close and cordial relations with Afghanistan based on the principles of non-intervention and non-interference.

The spokesman urges the Afghan side to work together for the common goal of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.
