At least five people died and 70 were affected after toxic gas spread in Keamari in Karachi on Sunday, officials confirmed.
The vice president of the union council in Keamari confirmed the death of five people and said that the local hospital does not have the capacity to treat all those affected.
Faisal Edhi, head of the Edhi Foundation, told SAMAA TV that at least 70 people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to the Federal Minister of Maritime Affairs, Ali Zaidi, a ship full of chemicals had anchored in the port. He said the port authorities are investigating how the gas leaked in the area.
Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed health and police officials to help people and move them to Jinnah and Abbasi hospitals. The deputy commissioner has been told to clean the gas area.
