The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have praised Australian firefighters, paramedics and police, telling them “You must be very proud of everything you do”.
William and Kate’s words of support were conveyed in the video message that marked the first day of Thank Thank First Responder in the country.
The couple reportedly will visit Australia later this year and record short films to recognize their efforts at the forefront of dealing with coronavirus responses and other major events in Australia.
William began a message that said: “Earlier this year we witnessed thousands of firefighters, supported by the wider community of first responders, as they worked tirelessly risking their own lives to protect the Australian community from devastating forest fires.
“The world is witnessing your efforts, and we are deeply touched by what we see.”
Kate went on to say: “Unfortunately, you are now at the forefront of another emergency. The Covid-19 outbreak has brought first responders across Australia together again.
“Day after day, paramedics, police, firefighters and support staff work tirelessly to protect everyone’s safety, often not only jeopardizing their physical health, but also their mental well-being.”
William said: “We must mention the first Australian volunteer respondents who chose to postpone their lives, to support their community, when needed. And we must not forget that these extraordinary people are supported every day by their family and friends. “
Cambridges has pledged to support British frontline mental health and key workers who fight the corona virus as their “top priority”.
The Royal Foundation for this couple supports our Frontline initiative which provides 24-hour mental health support for everyone from teachers and nurses to bus drivers.
Speaking in the video, the nobleman said, “Today, on Australia’s first day, Thank A First Responder Day, you all deserve to be grateful.”
Duke ended with the words: “Many times when Australia needs to protect you have answered that call. You must be very proud of everything you do. And we send our best wishes to you and your family. “
Thank A First Responder Day has been organized by Fortem Australia, a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the mental health and well-being of those who protect and care for the Australian community.
