Australian weekday has appointed its first female editor in 56-year history at Michelle Gunn, editor of the Australian Weekend since 2012.
Editor John Lehmann moved into the role of commercial and managing editor, chief editor, Christopher Dore, told staff at a meeting on Friday afternoon.
The managing editor, Helen Trinca, has become an associate editor and will remain as editor of The Deal magazine.
Gunn, who will remain as editor of Weekend Australia, began his career as a cadet journalist at the News Corp publication based on Holt Street in Surry Hills.

Gunn was a social affairs reporter and chief of national staff before taking over the Australian Weekend under former editor in chief Chris Mitchell.

Gunn was the first person in charge of weekday and weekend newspapers, and all digital platforms in Australia.

After four years as an editor, Lehmann will focus on directing commercial and consumer income, Miller said.
