Australians have named Icelandic band Daði & Gagnamagnið as the winners of Eurovision 2020: Big Night In !.
The band’s synth-pop song, Think About Things, was chosen as Australia’s favorite track from the virtual contest, which was made afterwards This year’s competition was canceled because of Coronavirus.
Australians have been invited to vote for their favorite actions to qualify for the 2020 version of the contest – which is scheduled to be held this weekend in Rotterdam – with the results revealed on Saturday night when broadcast on SBS.
Australians cannot vote for Montaigne, who was chosen as an Australian participant in 2020 in Australia Eurovision – Australia Decides! event on the Gold Coast in February this year.
However, SBS viewers can watch the song he will perform in Rotterdam, Don’t Break Me.
“To live a song on the Eurovision stage requires a lot of hardworking creative people, and even though we didn’t get the actual stage, I’m grateful that we can show off our baby, where we are very proud, to the public,” he said.
SBS Commission Editor and Head of Australian Delegation Josh Martin said SBS was proud to have given a kind of closure to Eurovision fans for this year’s song contest.
“Although we will never know who might win this year’s song contest, Montaigne’s performance tonight is extraordinary. “I have no doubt he will make Australia proud and finish high on the leader board,” he said.
Australian voters decided the Russian band Little Big was their second favorite act, with Lithuanian group The Roop finishing third.
Alternative Eurovision events have been held all over the world to fill the gap left by the absence of the main event.
