Myer reopens all Australian stores, week 25 May 2020 | Instant News

Main department store Myer will reopen the rest of its stores in Australia next week, because retailers are returning to business in the middle COVID-19.

Most of the 60 retail stores will all open on Wednesday after almost two months without customers in the store.

All Victorian Myer stores, including those in Chadstone and Bourke St. will be among those that will reopen.

Some shoppers will get inside the store faster with trial stores including at Blacktown NSW, Eastgardens and the opening of Charlestown on Friday.

Some Myer stores in NSW, Queensland, WA and South Australia Has opened in line with government COVID-19 steps.

While in WA, the Karrinyup store will open a little later next Saturday while the repair work is in progress.

The retail giant has stepped up safety and cleaning measures at its store, and has suspended some close contact services such as shoe fittings.

While Myer was closed, supermarkets were flooded when Australians went shopping.

Coles, Woolworths and Bunnings are among retailers who reduce spending hours during a pandemic.

Kmart has become one of the retailers to stay open with stringent long distance social measures in place.

Workers across the country in various sectors have been fired because businesses closed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The chief executive of the Australian Retailers Association Paul Zahra previously said retail activity was the key to economic recovery.

“Public health and safety are priorities and that will ensure a sustainable recovery rather than the wrong start,” Zahra said.

“Each country is on a slightly different recovery path and the decision will be based on local data and expert advice.”
