American News, NEW YORK, NY, Tuesday 2 June 2020: Carrying signs that read “Vidas Negras Importam: Black Lives Matter,” “The pain of children being killed is worthless” and “Justice is not blind,” hundreds of people rallied against police brutality in Brazil when the George protests Floyd is spilling globally.

Activists also used the latest killings of other unarmed black men, to also protest locally against the killing of black people during Brazilian police operations in the favelas amid a new coronavirus pandemic.

Many protested outside the Guanabara Palace – the headquarters of the State of Rio government – in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 31, 2020. The crowd chanting “I Cannot Breathe” was dispersed by police in riot clothing outside the government palace States.

Last year in Rio up to 1,402 people between January and September were killed by police, especially in operations in the favela, according to Human Rights Watch. Here are some scenes from the protest:
