January 25 (Now Renewable) – Brazilian thermoplastic resin producer Braskem SA (BVMF: BRKM5) signed an off-take contract with local wind power project developer Casa dos Ventos on Friday to purchase electricity generated by the new wind power plant.
Under the terms of the power purchase agreement (PPA), Casa dos Ventos will supply electricity from the new facility in the state of Rio Grande do Norte for a period of 20 years. No information on the number of energy contracts was disclosed by the buyer.
The resin producer indicated in the press release that they have the option of acquiring, with the approval of the competent governance body, a shareholding in wind power capacity to adopt a self-production model.
With this PPA, the fourth, Braskem exceeds the average contract amount of 100 MW of renewable energy from solar and wind sources, getting closer to avoiding 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions alone through the PPA.
