SUMMERSIDE, P. E. I. —

This award, Paul M. Schurman was surprised to receive.

Schurman, who is a longtime master of ceremonies for the celebration of the Summerside Canada day, was awarded to S. Ross Mackenzie Canada day award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the canadian pride for the city of Summerside on Canada Day. Despite leading the ceremony, Schurman was surprised when I heard his name announced.

“I had no idea (I was going to receive the award),” said Shulman, a two-time winner of the award. “They acted accordingly to the script. I was the MC, and they couldn’t have it in the script.”

Schurman, a veteran broadcaster with a Summerside based on Spud FM and host of sports roundup talk show every Sunday morning, says he can’t remember how old he was at the microphone for celebrations of the city’s Canada day.

“It’s just what I do every year,” said Schurman. “Canada day is a good day, and the day this year in Canada, I thought, if it can be more important than other years.

People just think about how important it is to live in a country that we do.”
