The NAB prosecutor, Suhail Arif, presented a report in court regarding the non-detention of three defendants, Nimr Majeed, Ali Kamal Majeed and Manahil Majeed.

The prosecutor also said that the house of a defendant, Zulfiqar, has been traced and a call has been issued through the district police officer.

The reference is presented under charges of embezzlement of funds released by the Sindh government to the sugar mills as a subsidy for subsequent payment to sugarcane producers.

The Government of Sindh, through the Commissioner of Caña Sindh, paid an amount of Rs 3.9 billion to different sugar mills for subsequent payment to sugarcane producers as a subsidy because of the supply of sugarcane for the 2014 season -fifteen.

An investigation was conducted on the eight sugar mills of the Omni Group owned by Anwar Majeed and his four children Abdul Ghani Majeed, Nimr Majeed, Mustafa Zulqarnain Majeed and Ali Kamal Majeed.

The investigation revealed that of the subsidies of Rs728.18 million granted to the eight sugar mills of the Omni Group, the defendants allegedly misappropriated an amount of Rs346 million in collusion with their superior employees by showing their underpaid staff as sugarcane producers.
