HANAU, GERMANY: Eight people died Wednesday in two shooting incidents in a German city near Frankfurt and special forces were chasing gunmen who fled in a car, police said.
Heavily armed police sealed two streets in the city of Hanau where the ambulances rushed. A police helicopter hovered over the city, east of the financial center of Frankfurt.
The reason for the shots is still unclear. Local media said armed men had opened fire on two Shisha bars in Hanau.
The gunmen fled the scene of the first incident in a dark-colored car. The police have established a direct line for members of the public with information that could lead to the perpetrators.
In a separate incident of multiple deaths in December, last year, six people, including a police officer and two suspected gunmen, were killed in an hour-long shooting near a cemetery and a kosher grocery store in Jersey City, New Sweater.
The two suspects were killed, acted alone, said Jersey City Police Chief Michael Kelly at a press conference hours later in the second largest city in the state, located directly across the Hudson River. from Manhattan.
The two armed men and the three civilian victims were pronounced dead inside the JC Kosher supermarket. The murdered police detective was mortally wounded near a cemetery a mile away where the shooting apparently began when he tried to intercept one of the suspects, Kelly said.
