Some football matches, many soccer postseason & cross country are canceled by state metric map | Instant News

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Nearly two dozen high school football matches in Week 8 have been removed from the schedule due to the COVID-19 metric map being released on Saturday.

In addition, several soccer and cross-country teams have finished their seasons early. Postseason for both sports starts next week, but the COVID map remains a defining metric about what teams can or cannot compete.

Doddridge County is in the red category for next week, halting all extracurricular activities.

The counties of Berkeley, Mingo, Morgan, Randolph, Upshur, Wirt and Wyoming are orange, which means no competitions can be held.

Gilmer, Jefferson, Marshall, Pendleton, and Wood’s Territories are gold, meaning teams can only compete with teams from other golden regions.

Soccer match canceled (involving Red & Orange County team):

  • Doddridge County in Roane County
  • Frankfort at Elkins

In addition, Doddridge County cross-country teams will not be allowed to compete at Thursday’s regional meetings due to their status as red areas. Doddridge’s boys are in the No. 1 in the Class A rankings while the girls Doddridge are second.

Doddridge County School Superintendent Adam Cheeseman released this statement Saturday evening:

Football teams from all orange nations (Berkeley, Mingo, Morgan, Randolph, Upshur, Wirt and Wyoming) will not be allowed to compete in the sexy tournament, which opens on Monday. Teams from the state of gold can compete without restrictions in the football section.
