SARATOGA SPRING – In a press release, Athletics Part II announced Monday that it has extended the suspension of matches and soccer practice for member schools until April 30.
Previously, the ban on Part II playing games and soccer training had been extended to April 19 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Because the entire state and state has been dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic for the past few weeks, Part 2 has continued to deal with many local health departments, state health departments, as well as continuous monitoring of NYSED and Federal & State Government information coming out,” press release, in part, reads: “We are in an unprecedented period and Part is taking action to do our part in protecting our student-athletes and our entire school community.”
Then, the press release stated: “In accordance with the Governor of NYS, schools are currently closed through April 15. That date may or may not be extended. However, if that date is not extended, our member schools will follow the CDC Guidelines, as recommended by the President of the United States. If the date is extended by the Governor, the action will close all school intercultural activities through a new deadline, at which point we will review and make suggestions. “
Shortly after Part II sent its press release, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the closure of the school would be extended until at least April 29.
Previously, the New York State High School Athletics Association had set April 27 as a deadline for itself to determine whether it would be appropriate for an organization to sponsor a spring state championship.
