The world lost legend on Friday with the death of Hank Aaron. Aaron is best known as the king of Home Run baseball, as he retired with more home runs than any other player MLB history, surpassing Babe Ruth’s 714 homers on April 8, 1974. He would finish his career with 755 homers, and that record was eventually surpassed * (controversially) by Barry Bonds.

However, while Aaron was known for his home run prowess, he was even more so as a baseball player. Just look at these numbers CBSSports.com Matt Snyder moved on from his career.
- Aaron is fourth in running history, third in hitting, 13 in doubles, second in home runs, first on RBI, 27 in runs, 24 in OPS +, first in bases totals, first in extra-hits base, seventh at times on base, fourth on a deliberate journey. He was even fourth in the sacrifice fly.
- He’s one of only three players with at least 2,000 runs and 2,000 RBI (Babe Ruth and Alex Rodriguez)
- Aaron is fifth in his WAR career behind Barry Bonds, Ruth, Willie Mays and Ty Cobb
Aaron is a sports legend who transcends his generation. The current player, who wasn’t even alive when Aaron was playing, still views him as a hero for everything he has accomplished on the pitch and what he means to many beyond that. We’ve seen a few people like him in history and are unlikely to see many more in the future.
And now for tonight’s selection, as well as our pick for Sunday’s conference championship.

Celtics at 76ers, 19:30 | TV: ESPN
Selection: Under 222.5 (-110): What? You think that since we made the same bet in the same game on Wednesday and lost, we wouldn’t do that again? Oh yes, we are. The total in that game was 221.5, and we lost, and tonight it was 222.5, so you were absolutely right, we did it again. Just because you lost that night doesn’t mean it’s a wrong game. Things are going badly.
Most wrongly, the Sixers were awarded 45 free throw attempts. That’s a ridiculous number of free throws. By comparison, the team that has averaged the most free throws attempts per game this season is Washington. This averages 26.6 per game, or 18.4 fewer shots than the Sixers shot on Wednesday. Considering the game finished with a score of 228 points, the free throw has an impact! We won’t see it happen again tonight, which will keep the score low at normal levels between the two (they averaged 211.6 points per game in eight meetings last season).
Main Trends: The bottom was 5-2 in the last seven encounters and it would be 6-1 if it weren’t for all those damn free throws!
Here’s what SportsLine has to say about the game: Advanced Computer Models have simulated this game 10,000 times of finding answers, and I wonder how many of those simulations include the Sixers firing 45 free throws.
Nuggets at the Suns, 10pm | TV: ESPN
Options: Nugget +2 (-110) – You know I love looking for teams underestimated by the market, and we’ve found that with the Nuggets. Denver is only 7-7 to start the season, and if the playoffs start now they’ll be looking from the outside. However, their record is somewhat misleading as their average points difference this season is +3.9 points per game. It was the fourth best ever record in the Western Conference, ahead of the Suns (+3.3) side the Nuggets will face tonight.
Now, the worry is that Denver has fallen apart defensively for the start of the season, but the attack is so good that I think it’s capable of keeping this game going tonight. I don’t hate the cash line game, but I feel better about the points.
Main Trends: Nuggets only 5-9 ATS this season. You may think this is a bad trend, but I think it means a setback is coming.
Buccaneers in The packer, Sunday, 15:05 | TV: Fox
Options: Under 51.5 (-110) – When the two met earlier in the season it was the worst I have ever seen Aaron Rodgers see in the game and the pinnacle of Tampa’s defensive appearance. In other words, it’s the kind of game we can’t take too much of because it’s heavy on outliers. You won’t make much money betting against Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, so I chose to avoid that route. Instead, I’ll use this total. It seems a bit high considering the weather conditions this game is likely to play in, and, no matter who wins, I have a hard time imagining a shootout.
Main Trends: Under is 4-1 in Tampa’s last five games as underdogs.
Bill in Chiefs, Sunday, 18:40 | TV: CBS
Options: Chiefs -3 (-115) – Patrick mahomes outside of concussion protocol and has been allowed to play. With that in mind, I’m having a hard time fighting the Chairman in the house in this place. The buffalo defense has improved, but none of the previous seven fouls he faced has been ranked in the top half NFL via DVOA. The Indianapolis passing attack is ranked highest at 16th. Kansas City is second, only behind Green Bay. I love Bills. They have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch all season … but I think the fun ends on Sunday.
Main Trends: The Chiefs are 4-1 ATS in a playoff game that Patrick Mahomes starts and ends with.
🔒 Today’s SportsLine Selection: CBS mixed martial arts analyst, Brandon Wise just released his pick for UFC 257 on Saturday.
