UNC Duke match: Franklin Street live: Tar Heel fans crowd the campus streets despite COVID-19 alerts | Instant News

CHAPEL HILL, NC – UNC fans once again storm Franklin Street despite numerous warnings from university and law enforcement officials.

This time the law enforcement apparatus was ready. They continued to allow traffic to flow and limit revelers on the sidewalks.

By 9 p.m., roughly an hour after the match ended, the crowd had dispersed. In previous years, the celebration would last late into the night.

It’s unclear whether the people who storm Franklin Street and congregate on the sidewalk will face repercussions from universities or law enforcement.

Rushing Franklin Street is a tradition at UNC after the men’s basketball team beat Duke. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, that’s a tradition brought scathing criticism early in the season; which is why officials said they would not allow it a second time.

That UNC Tar Heels beat Duke Blue Devils 91-73 to finish the regular season of their archrival sweep.

According to ESPN Insider John Gasaway That loss probably means Duke has to win the ACC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

If the Blue Devils fail to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, it will be the first since 1995 – the season in which Coach Mike Krzyzewski withdrew from coaching due to injury.

The Blue Devils finished the regular season without a winning streak for the first time since 1994-95 – a season in which Coach Mike Krzyzewski was sidelined by injury.

Duke has made 24 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, the second longest active streak of its kind, but will likely have to win five matches in as few days at the ACC tournament to earn a place this year. The Blue Devils’ longest winning run this season is four.
