Epic Fortnite has more than 350 million registered players, game developers announced on Wednesday. That makes the free-to-play royale battle game one of the most popular titles ever made, ranking there by everywhere Minecraft and some of the most downloaded mobile PC games and free games in the last 15 years. Although we have no indication of how many players enter each day or month, because Epic did not release these statistics, the studio said that in April alone, players recorded 3.2 billion hours of Fortnite.
The last player count statistics we heard from Epic are around 250 million in March 2019, showing that the game is still growing a year later and more than two and a half years after the initial release. That’s partly because the game is available on all platforms – PCs, consoles and cellular – and because Epic is constantly updating it.
Recently, a developer added the party royale, a weapon-free social space in the game that allows players to enter and hang out with friends, watch concerts from famous music shows, and engage in various theme park-style activities. That’s all part of Epic’s quest for building a metaverse-style social network which lives fully in its 3D world. After The massive and surreal Travis Scott concert last month and the Diplo show last FridayEpic said it would hold a mini music festival featuring DJs Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki and deadmau5 starting at 9:00 PM ET this Friday, May 8.
