Michael Jordan was concerned before The last dance began broadcasting that the documentary would make it look bad. To some degree, that is so. Jordan’s highly competitive nature led to several incidents with teammates, some of which have been recorded and some of which will definitely occur before the documentary ends. But documentary Ken Burns is concerned in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Jordan’s involvement might prevent some of the worst stories involving Jordan from being broadcast.
It seems like he is right. Sam Smith, the famous author of “The Jordan Rules,” was one of the first journalists to expose the dark side of Jordan. He appeared Tolbert, Krueger, and Brooks Podcast and told the exact type of story that Burns feared might not end in a documentary. According to Smith, ordinary players told him that Jordan would eliminate food from teammate Horace Grant after a bad match.
“The players will come to me for years and say, ‘You know what he did? He took Horace [Grant’s] food on the plane because Horace had a bad match, ‘”Smith said.”[Michael] to the flight attendants, “Don’t feed him, he doesn’t deserve to eat.”
The obvious question that arises from this is why it hasn’t been revealed before. Jordan might be involved in the documentary, but he is not part of “The Jordan Rules.” The problem for Smith is that no one else wants, at least in the notes.
“They will tell me things like that and they will say ‘Why don’t you write this?’ And I would say, “Well, I can’t write it unless you say it.” I don’t do ‘league resources.’ You cannot do such things with these things. ‘If you want to be quoted, I have no problem with that.’ “No, no, no, we can’t say that about Michael Jordan.” “
Jordan’s motivation for doing so is unclear. Grant is mostly productive when playing with Jordan and is usually in good condition. That did not happen for all of Jordan’s teammates, because Jordan is famous for being upset with the weight and conditioning of Stacey King.
The last dance intended to provide an accurate overall picture of Jordan. The idea that he is imperfect is naturally closed. But a documentary that he followed would not air any of his dirty clothes. Certain stories will never see the light of day. This is almost one of them.
