The rumor is true: follow the runaway popularity GTA 5 on the Epic Games Store, Epic has followed up with the prize Civilization 6, the latest entry in the legendary 4X series. As GTA 5 and dozens of previous games, no strings attached here: all you have to do is redeem the game and it’s yours forever, even if you don’t download it right away. Not only are we all locked up to some degree now, the economy can make it difficult to justify careless spending. Free games may be just what we need, right now.
To download, all you need is an Epic Game Launcher, which you may have while playing Fortnite however. Go to the store, where you will see a free game now that features the front and center. Because the previous leak turned out to be right, we can guess what will happen next: Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Ark: Survival of the Evolved. That’s thousands of hours of free entertainment, depending on how you choose to slice it. You won’t lose anything just by heading and clicking on the box, so I highly recommend you do it, even if you don’t plan to play now.
This is another big thing, in many different ways. You can easily lose weeks and months of your life Civilization 6, even though fans of the series didn’t like it as much as iteration ago. For those who don’t know, this is basically a historical simulator: you choose people (Roman, US, British, Chinese, etc.) and then start in the paleolithic period with a single settler capable of establishing a city. You then need to develop civilization and research new technology until you reach the modern era, destroying your opponents over time. It is also addictive, with a turn-based format that makes it very easy to click on that button and see what happens at the next turn.
I had to take it off a few months after exiting, and that was before expansion came out: this is a much fuller game than usual, even though the free version is only a basic game.
This follows a kind of pattern with GTA 5, although on a much smaller scale – I did not expect Civilization 6 to crash into the storefront. But like GTA 5, Civ 6 is an older game with an active and dedicated fan base and many ways for publishers to make money from new players, even if they come for free. Both also come from 2K, which doesn’t seem to be a coincidence.
