At some point, you’ve watched everything you want to watch on Netflix, and it’s time to do something else. Because millions and millions of Americans spend more time at work, based on video games Internet traffic has jumped. If you want to return to video games after a long pause – or you’re just ready to upgrade your old console – you will be joined by many others. But not all video game consoles offer the same experience or access. First, they don’t all run the same video game. And, of course, different video game consoles carry different price tags.
Both Sony and Microsoft have announced the next generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. They are currently scheduled to be released in the 2020 holiday season, although we don’t know yet whether the coronavirus pandemic and its influence on the economy can delay things. In addition, it often takes a new console time to improve. Many people prefer to use the previous generation of hardware until the new console has a large selection of games, price reductions or second edition or refreshment (like PS4 Slim or Xbox One S, which is released later in the life cycle of each platform). So which video game console is right for you? To help guide you, here is the best video game system to keep you busy, as well as some of the top games on each game console and what you need to know before entering.

Choosing the best video game console for you
There are three main platforms in the video game console room now (not including PC):
- Sony PlayStation
- Microsoft Xbox
- Nintendo switch
This is not the only platform around. You can play retro games on Nintendo NES Classic or SEGA Genesis Mini, as an example. And new subscription streaming platforms like Google Stadia and NVIDIA GeForce Now let you play without a console at all. (Yesterday, Google announced its offer free access to Stadia game services for anyone who has a Gmail address, along with free access to several games and a two-month trial of a higher level of service.) But most game studios focus on the main console above when they develop their video games. To determine what works best for you, of course you want to determine your game goals – and your game console budget, of course. For the most part, this means determining which games you want to play.
- Exclusive game designed only with one platform and usually cannot be played on another platform.
- Cross platform game designed with some – but not necessarily all – in mind.
A very popular nuisance from the coronavirus world today, for example, is the Nintendo Switch-exclusive game: Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As Ani Bundle argues NBC News THINKS, the game “has taken a country ravaged by storms, thanks to the accidental timely arrival and soothing scenario of all ages.” And it turns out, the older version of the game has gained increasing appeal last year, long before we were all forced to stay indoors – especially with older gamers.
While the Nintendo franchise above proves itself worthy of viewers of all ages, you will find several platforms sleeker than that. That means you can also focus on what type the game you want to play – you don’t have to choose a specific game – or what age group you want to go to. Maybe you buy a console as a gift for someone else (or as a means of achieving relaxation from your children’s anxiety during quarantine).
Sony PlayStation game console
Sony’s latest generation console, PlayStation 4, is the second best-selling game console of all time, thanks in part to exclusive associations, well-reviewed games like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider Man. That also has its own virtual reality headset, a built-in Blu-ray player (which can play DVDs and music CDs), and applications such as Netflix and Hulu, which allow it to act as a living room entertainment system that can do anything. Currently there are two variants that you can buy.
The PS4 Slim is – as the name suggests – a slimmer version of the original PS4 (which Sony no longer sells). Internal specifications are the same as the original PS4, allowing for affordable gaming at 1080p. However, you get terabyte storage (doubling the original storage), so you have plenty of room for digitally purchased games and applications.
If you have a 4K TV, you might need to spend $ 100 extra on PS4 Pro. It supports all the same games as regular PS4, but it is possible to 4K resolution and HDR in some titles, that means you get sharper and more vibrant graphics. For games that don’t support 4K and HDR, you can activate “Enhanced Mode” to use the extra power of the PS4 Pro for better performance on older titles. Like the PS4 Slim, the PS4 Pro has a built-in Blu-ray player, but can only play traditional 1080p Blu-ray discs – not “4” UHD “disks.
Microsoft Xbox game console
The Microsoft One Xbox console supports most of the same games as the PlayStation 4, minus all the exclusive titles that Sony has. But while the Xbox One hasn’t been sold or its main competitors, Microsoft actually made a more powerful console, which means you might experience better performance in several titles – plus you get features like FreeSync, which eliminates tearing of the screen on new TVs that support it. It also has some games that are not on PS4, like Gears of War and Halos, although some of these titles are also available on PC. Like PS4, there are two versions to choose from.
Microsoft One Xbox One is the most affordable game console that you can buy today, with their diskless version running under $ 250. That means you have to buy all of your games digitally, and you don’t get any Blu-ray players, but if you just want an affordable console for casual games, Xbox One S is a good choice. (There is also a version with a 4K capable disk slot for $ 300, bundled with games like 5th gear or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.)
If you have a 4K TV, the Xbox One X $ 300 might be the best choice for a console made by Microsoft. You get all the same games as the Xbox One S, but with support for 4K and HDR in certain games, and a 4K Blu-ray player.
Nintendo Switch game console
Finally, Nintendo stands alone in several ways. While Nintendo Switch has some of the same games as Xbox and PlayStation 4, its graphics capabilities are not nearly as good as this. The biggest lottery Switch is like a Nintendo franchise Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and mentioned above Animal Crossing. This makes it great for younger children, but this is definitely not a special children’s console – as adults who grew up with Nintendo can say to you, those games are fun regardless of your age.
Nintendo Switch (limited supplies)
The Nintendo Switch is unique in that both are hand-held consoles – like the old school Boy – and the living room console. Play on the go, then go home and slide to the dock to play games on TV (either with a removable controller or a more comfortable one) Replace Pro Controller). Note that even though the price of the Switch list is $ 300, the price is soaring now, so you might have to pay a small amount of the demand tax right now.
Nintendo Switch Lite (limited supplies)
If you don’t want to play on TV, Switch Lite is a more affordable and only handheld version of the Switch. It supports almost all the same games, but has a slightly smaller screen and is designed only for games when traveling. (Some games, like Super Mario party, don’t support handheld mode and therefore won’t work on Switch Lite.) Like a Switch, a device that is usually $ 200 is a little more expensive now, depending on the color you buy.
