Paris Fashion Week: Highlights from the latest couture event | Instant News

If the ready-to-wear show is about selling products, the Paris haute couture show, which is staged annually in January and July, is about selling dreams. It’s here, season after season, some of the designers working in this clearened space set up their most intricate sets and show off their most fantastic designs, while showcasing the savoir faire of their atelier.

In the era of the coronavirus, and the restrictions around travel and assembly that accompany it, world development is becoming more difficult – but not impossible. After all, last season, a number of designers found a way to wow via computer screens alone.

In collaboration with British photographer Nick Knight, Valentino’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, delivered high drama on camera with live videos featuring models perched on rotating steps or sitting on air rings. (Better to show off the exaggerated proportions of the Fall-Winter 2020-2021 collection.) At Dior, meanwhile, Maria Grazia Chiuri is showing off her surreal-inspired collection in narrative short films, with models playing sirens, deer, and other mythological creatures.
