North Dakota State entered Saturday with a 39-game winning streak, but lost in stunning fashion on Saturday afternoon.
The Bison crashed 38-14 to Southern Illinois thanks to a superb performance by Saluki. Quarterback Nik Baker completed 17-of-23 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown.
On the other hand, NDSU had difficulty moving the ball offensively. Quarterback Zeb Noland threw just 159 yards and one interception. Jalen Bussey makes three passes for 72 yards, but the rest of the play on the field is ineffective.
This match opened at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Following Baker’s touchdown pass that took him 24-7, Saluki intercepted Noland and ended up scoring another touchdown to make it 31-7.
Southern Illinois lead eventually reached 38-7 before Bison added a touchdown of junk time to reach the final score of 38-14.
The 39th straight win in North Dakota is the longest in FCS history. Bison enters the game as a 16.5 point favorite according to most sportsbooks.
The FCS plays the spring for the pandemic.
North Dakota State (2-1) will be in action again on March 6 vs State of Missouri.
