The inaugural Food-A-Palooza brought hundreds of people to the parking lot of the Flint Hills Mall on Saturday | Instant News

Foodies from far and wide come to Flint Hills Mall Saturday for a new and delicious event.

The first annual Food-A-Palooza Food Truck welcomes hungry visitors to the mall parking lot throughout the day. Seven food trucks took part in the event including Gustoso (goo-STOH-sohs), Two Dudes Food, Jack’s Snack Shack, Lazy Butt BBQ, Mis Antojitos, Grab-n-Go Hot Dogs and Poppin For You Too.

Mall manager Clarence Frye said more than 500 people attended the day’s event which exceeded his expectations. Each of the vendors keeps 100 percent of the day’s revenue and Frye said while there is no direct financial gain for the mall, he believes they will see a steady increase in pedestrian traffic as a direct result of the event.

Not only are each vendor present to sell you some delicious food, but they are also competing to see who stands above the others. Vendors compete in two categories, mall choice and community choice.

Lazy Butt Barbecue took home the people’s choice award with 27 percent of the vote. Owner Karl Baker says Lazy Butt’s crew is no stranger to taking home the award for their meal that has claimed much state, national and even world recognition for their barbecue.

With that said, Baker said this win might be a little sweeter than some of the others.

Two Dudes Food took home the mall choice award with a majority of the jury’s votes. Travis Hitt of Two Dudes said being part of the event was an extraordinary experience, especially when you consider “everything that is happening in the world right now”.

Both trucks received a trophy and a $ 50 cash prize for their winnings.

Frye told KVOE News that he and his team will meet this week to discuss the event and possibly plan more installments in the future.
