Penn State Extension Service is offering a webinar next week for volunteers helping prepare and serve meals for their nonprofit. The webinar is set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST on December 8.
The webinar was entitled, “Cooking for the Crowd: A Volunteer Guide to Safe Food Handling. “It is designed for nonprofits and their volunteers to help them understand the risks involved with preparing large quantities of food and the important food safety practices that need to be implemented to ensure a safe event.”
Webinar participants will study the causes of foodborne illness as well as safe food handling practices.
Topics are planned to include:
- Good personal hygiene for all volunteers involved in food preparation.
- Time and temperature control is necessary to keep food away from the temperature danger zone.
- How to prevent cross contamination.
- Cleaning and sanitizing in operation.
The fee for attending the webinar is $ 5. To sign up, visit the Extensions service website.
This webinar was developed in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Participants can get a certificate of completion after joining the program.
