HOUSTON – With thousands of unemployed people and children coming home from school, the number of Houston residents who need food has increased sharply in the past two months.
A Houston Food Bank distribution event at Berry Center on Wednesday showed a long line of cars passing in parking lots around the building and even lying on the road. Volunteers work as fast as possible to fill a car that is waiting with food.
That Houston Food Bank has that they see a historic demand for food because more Houston residents are struggling to put food on the table in between coronavirus closures. Have taken steps to ensure that everyone who needs food can get it.

Summer Food Service Program: At Home Children Meal Boxes
Eligible families who need help to feed their children during the summer can register for the At Home Children Meal Boxes program. If the family meets certain criteria, they can qualify to receive lunch boxes containing five frozen lunches and five breakfasts that are sent once a week to their homes. KPRC 2 joins the Houston Astros’ third baseman, Alex Bregman and his Alex Army efforts to raise $ 2 million to help feed residents of the Houston area who experienced food insecurity during the COVID-19 crisis. The results obtained through The BEDMAN FEEDHOU Campaign will directly benefit Houston Food Bank, a nonprofit committed to feeding hungry people in the Houston area.
Gives: Every $ 1 you donate can help provide three meals. Donations can be made by typing “FEEDHOU” in a text message to number 41444 or by visiting Alex Army fundraising page.
Volunteer: If you are healthy and want to make an impact, Houston Food Bank needs you! Register at houstonfoodbank.org to see voluntary transfers available to individuals or small groups. Volunteer safety is a priority and appropriate safety measures will be taken, including social distance.
