BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – The Buffalo Police Department is partnering with community organizers and Western New York Hero’s today.

Their goal is to distribute food for the Western New York Veterans Food Initiative.

Veterans can drive and receive a free box of food.

Captain Amber Beyer of the Buffalo Police Department says this is an important mission now.

“You know now, I think everyone is having a hard time during the COVID-19 pandemic and everything, especially our veteran population. So today the focus is on them and we only want to provide food if they need it during this difficult time. ”

Donations for veterans include dairy, bread and meat products.

Captain Breyer said hundreds of cars showed up just as they started.
