County provides federal funding for the food and shelter program | Instant News


Bryan County has been awarded federal funding under the National Council on Food and Emergency Shelter Program; The Salvation Army will act as an administrative agent. Bryan County will receive for Phase 38 $ 11,054.00 to supplement the local emergency food and shelter program. Funds will be distributed to eligible organizations selected by the local council.

Budgeted awards are made by a national council made up of affiliated national voluntary organizations chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as deemed appropriate based on unemployment and poverty data.

Under the terms of a grant from the National Council, local agencies selected to receive funding must: 1) be a non-profit non-governmental organization or government unit, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice non-discrimination, 4) have demonstrated ability to provide emergency meals and / or programs residence, and 5) if they are a private, voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary council. All institutions applying for EFSP funding must provide their DUNS and FEIN number in their application. Failure to provide these numbers will prevent or delay disbursement of funds to the agency, if provided by the local council. REQUIRED ORGANIZATIONS MUST REGISTER.

A local council consisting of representatives from local emergency services agencies, the United Way of the Coastal Empire, City and County governments, Catholic Charities, the American Red Cross, the Jewish Federation, The Salvation Army and community volunteers will determine how funds will be distributed between programs food and emergency shelter run by local service organizations. The local council is responsible for recommending agencies to receive this funding and the additional funds available under this phase of the program. Previously funded programs provided shelter night, meals, emergency utility assistance as well as a portion of the lease / mortgage.
