Dm now offers a click & collect solution, called “Express-Abholung”, nationally in Germany. Given the corona pandemic, drugstore operators are expanding services after only a short test phase.
DM initially tested the click & collect solution in the Munich area, but now this service can be used in most branches throughout German. “Just order online and pick it up at your DM store in six hours,” the company said on its website.
Online orders can be taken in six hours.
In the fall of last year, DM started an experiment with 54 branches in Munich that offered services, which – like Lebensmittel Zeitung Tofu – later known as ‘Marktabholung Express’. During the trial phase, items can be collected even four hours after an online order is placed.
National launch after coronavirus action
“With a few exceptions, almost all of our 2011 stores in Germany now offer this new service,” Dm explained. The national launch was not only due to a successful test in Munich, but also because of coronavirus. “After it became clear that steps to combat the spread of the corona virus would limit stationary retail and online orders would increase tremendously, we decided to offer this service throughout Germany.”
Cash payments are not permitted
Online purchases collected by Dm customers through this service can be paid using PayPal, credit cards, and Paydirekt. Cash payments at the store are not available with the click & collect service. This service costs € 2.95, but for registered users it’s free.
