Hawaiian Monk Seal With Eel Stuck Up Its Nose Makes Full Recovery — The Eel, Not So Much

Earlier this week, the Hawaiian Monk Seal Analysis Program (HMSRP) of the Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) posted a weird and moderately troubling {photograph} on social media. The snapshot, which amassed tons of of feedback on Facebook and was shared greater than 1,000 instances, confirmed a Hawaiian monk seal with a noticed eel caught up its nostril.

Though the unfortunate seal — a juvenile, by all accounts — didn’t appear too bothered by the sticky scenario wherein it mysteriously ended up, subject researchers rushed to the scene to assist the poor animal get free from its undesirable baggage, studies CNet.

The scenario was resolved by way of “mild restraint of the seal and a sluggish regular pull to get the eel out,” notes Motherboard, citing sources from the seal program. Whereas the pup appears to be doing properly, the eel was much less lucky and didn’t survive the peculiar incident.
