A Washington woman infected with the novel coronavirus said that she was a “walking miracle” after giving birth to a baby girl while in a coma.

Angela Primachenko, 27, from Vancouver, was 33 weeks pregnant when she tested positive for COVID-19. Eight days later, she was given a medically induced ventilator and coma – all doctors at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center induced labor to give her and her baby a chance in life.

“I’m not sure where I am. I’m so confused. I don’t have a stomach anymore, [and I] don’t know where my baby is. I am in isolation [and] can not see my husband, “Primachenko remembers KPTV local news station.

“Obviously, no one hopes that I will get sick, so no, absolutely not, I do not expect to give birth to my child,” the new mother also told TODAY. “After all the medicine and everything I just woke up and suddenly, I no longer have a stomach. That’s very surprising. “

Although Primachenko was released from the ventilator on April 6 and allowed to go home on weekends, she has not seen her newborn daughter, Ava, who remains in the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital (NICU). The young girl had been tested negative for the new virus, but Primachenko had to wait for everything to be clear – two consecutive tests taken 24 hours apart that were equally negative – before she could hold her daughter.

Her husband, David, and Emily, her 11-month-old daughter, however, have been able to see Ava at the NICU, while Primachenko can meet her daughter through FaceTime.

Meanwhile, Primachenko said she was happy to recover.

“I just took it [one] every day and just trying to regain my strength and core and muscles, “Primachenko told KPTV, adding the name of her daughter was perfect.

“[Ava] means the breath of life, “Primachenko said.” I think Ava is a beautiful name. We did not expect to walk this path, but it finally became the breath of our small lives. “
