He also announced the appointment of a new Deputy head of the Department of health, Dr. Sonya Bennett.
Dr. Bennett said that she worked with the head of the Department of health, Dr Jeannette young for the past seven years as Executive Director of the branch of infectious diseases.
“I am already heavily involved in the support of young doctors through the pandemic,” she said.
“I am very pleased and honored to be able to provide more concrete support to Dr. young, because I think we can all agree that she will lead us all through a pandemic and did a fabulous job”.
Dr. Bennett said she was a government doctor in Radcliffe in 2009, when the H1N1 influenza pandemic hit.
“Unfortunately, we find ourselves in the midst of another pandemic, but as the Deputy Prime Minister said that the news again today with no new cases today in Queensland,” she said.
“We had only three cases in the last two weeks, all of them overseas-purchased and are in isolation or quarantine, so no danger to society.”
Dr. Bennett said that there is no room for complacency as cases in Victoria rose.
