Montfort became the second Ottawa hospital to confirm the COVID-19 outbreak | Instant News

Montfort Hospital has confirmed that a COVID-19 outbreak occurred in one of its teams.

In a statement, Montfort said the decision to declare the outbreak was made in collaboration with Ottawa Public Health, “although the outbreak only involved a few staff members.”

No details were given about the number of staff, or units.

On Monday afternoon, the Montfort administrator did not know how a staff member was infected. Affected workers have been placed in isolation and additional actions have been placed in the department, a spokesman said.

“Staff members who make contact with patients are reminded to be diligent in following instructions for wearing masks, hand hygiene and maintaining physical distance,” he said.

“Every staff member who shows symptoms must leave the hospital immediately and be tested, according to our policy. This is a matter of ensuring the safety of our patients and staff. “

Affected staff colleagues who might have been exposed have been contacted and the hospital is following up. Every patient who shows symptoms will be immediately isolated and tested, he said.

There are now seven confirmed outbreaks in institutions around the city, according to the Ottawa Public Health.

Seven institutions affected include the Promenade, retirement care homes and long-term care, Park Place, Garden Terrace, and the Maplewood Pension Community, the Ottawa Carleton Association for People with Disabilities, as well as inpatient units on the Civic Hospital Ottawa campus and now Montfort Hospital.

On Saturday, the Ottawa Hospital announced an outbreak in the Civic campus inpatient unit after a patient was infected while in hospital.

It is unknown how the patient, who is now in isolation, became infected, Ottawa Hospital said in a statement. There are no other patients associated with patients.
