Indonesia orders flights to steer clear of erupting Anak Krakatau volcano

Indonesia on Thursday rerouted all flights across the erupting Anak Krakatau volcano between Java and Sumatra islands, because it spewed columns of ash into the air, days after it triggered a lethal tsunami.

A crater collapse on the volcanic island at excessive tide on Saturday despatched waves as much as 5 meters (16 toes) excessive smashing into the coast on the Sunda Strait, killing greater than 400 folks.

“All flights are rerouted attributable to Krakatau volcano ash on pink alert,” the federal government air-traffic management company AirNav stated in a launch.

Authorities raised the volcano’s alert stage to the second-highest on Thursday, imposing a 5-km exclusion zone.
