Italy rejects plans to increase the audience in the stadium because of the COVID-19 situation | Instant News

ROME (Reuters) – The Italian government has rejected a proposal to allow more spectators to watch sporting events, including the Serie A football league.

The Italian region has suggested that the current 1,000-spectator limit be increased to 25% of stadium capacity, which would allow nearly 20,000 fans in bigger stadiums such as the San Siro in Milan and Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

However, the government’s scientific-technical committee (CTS) said on Saturday that such a move would be premature because of the COVID-19 situation.

“CTS believes that. … current conditions do not allow audience participation in outdoor and indoor events as indicated in the documents prepared by the Autonomous Regions and Provinces Conference, “he said in a statement.

CTS added that they could reconsider their decision after having more information about the impact on the COVID-19 situation from reopening schools earlier this month.
