ROME – The number of new Italian coronavirus cases continues to decline.
The Civil Protection Authority said on Tuesday there were 3,039 new cases in a 24-hour period. Italy has not seen low daily rates since the initial weeks of the outbreak.
Said Giovanni Rezza, director of the infectious disease division of the national health agency: “Finally we are beginning to see a reduction in new cases” after the highland phase. He expressed satisfaction that even Italy’s most devastated region, Lombardy, also witnessed the same trend.
Italy has 135,586 confirmed cases. After around 600 additional deaths were registered on Tuesday, Italy has counted 16,523 deaths in the COVID-19 outbreak.
