Microsoft announced this morning plans for invest $ 1.5 billion in Italy to expand the Azure footprint by building the first data center in the country. The five-year investment plan called “Ambizione Italia #DigitalRestart” predicted a firm commitment by Microsoft to empower Italian organizations, support economic growth, and launch digital skills programs. In addition, Microsoft aims to launch a new Sustainability Alliance to provide access to AI Hubs, and programs to promote SMEs in the region.

In terms of its investment plans in Italy, Microsoft said that research carried out by Microsoft Italia and Politecnico at Milano School of Management shows that the new data center will generate more than 10,000 job opportunities, as well as an estimated income of $ 9 billion for local businesses by the end of 2024.
