On May 25, 2020, the jet was 10 MB-339A / PAN from Frecce Tricolori, the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) demonstration team will embark on an unprecedented tour of the country.
So it is with what is done in the US, places US Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Lightning together with other units that have carried out flyovers in recognition of health care, first responders, law enforcement and all frontline personnel during the COVID-19 crisis, the Italian Air Force display team will conduct a dedicated flyover across the country. Named “Abbraccio Tricolore” (Tricolor Hug) the tour includes 21 flyovers in 5 days with a gran finale, in Rome, on June 2, when the team will fly over Capital for Festa della Repubblica, Italian National Day and Republic Day. Frecce Tricolori will fly over all of Italy, spreading the colors of the Italian National Flag to symbolically embrace all countries as a sign of unity, solidarity and recovery for health emergencies.
Frecce will also fly over Codogno, in Lombardy, northern Italy, where the first COVID-19 patient in Italy was diagnosed: the small town became the center of a COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, triggering a national emergency, and was quarantined on February 22, 2020.
During the pandemic and subsequent national lockdown, Frecce has emerged as a symbol of unity: as explained in previous article, a clip showing ten MB-339A / PAN Frecce planes carrying out their last maneuvers went viral in March, in such a way that even President Trump used the clip to tweet a push to Italy. Some users on social media say the scene symbolizes the end of Coronavirus: a larger formation following the three-color smoke covering the smoke trail from a solo “plane virus”, making it invisible. No matter what people gave, the maneuver was “only” the moving end of Frecce’s appearance in harmony with the broadcasting of Luciano Pavarotti’s voice singing “Nessun dorma”, the famous aria of the opera “Tourandot”.
