In 1964, I took a part-time job announcing work at my home radio station, WATK in Antigo, Wisconsin. I think it will be a fun way to get a little money while waiting for “real work” to come.
It is hard to believe that I have spent more than 50 years doing something that I truly enjoy and I am very grateful for the opportunity that radio has given me so far.
I ended up at Twin Harbor and married my beloved wife in large part because of Vice President Hubert Humphrey. The story was long, but a phone call from the V-P to the Base Commander at the Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio made the wheels spin so I was transferred here when I was in service.
After four years in the Air Force, I spent more than 20 years at WAKX in Duluth including more than ten years as part of the popular “RJ and Dave” morning show.
Since 1992, I have been on the air and in the newsroom here at KDAL and host
Saturday Night Oldies Party at that time 96 LITE, currently MY 95.7.
Now, it’s really fun for me to host the KDAL Morning Show with Tom Hansen while keeping our listeners informed and entertained every day.
It’s always hard to get out of bed so early, but I’m still in a hurry to be on the radio.
I have met and worked with many great people over the years and every day is a new adventure because my search for “real work” continues.
