On May 14, the Lily Fortune coal carrier was shipped at Oshima Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in Saikai city in Nagasaki prefecture in Japan. The new coal carrier is the third ship to take the name Lily Fortune, which is derived from white lilies, symbolic flowers from the former city of Haramachi in Fukushima prefecture. The ship will transport coal to the Tohoku Electric Power coal power plant mainly from Australia and Indonesia to produce electricity for the Tohoku region of Japan.
Transportation provided by NYK will have less environmental impact because the ship is equipped with a scrubber system * which complies with the stricter SOx International Maritime Organization emission regulations which took effect in January.
In addition, the new Lily Fortune is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by around 4% compared to standard coal carriers through the use of energy-saving devices such as advanced steering balls and fixed fins that increase the flow of water produced at the rear. ship.
