Additional announcement from the Government
funded more than $ 200 million for the seven Crowns
The Research Institute strengthens the view that science and
innovation is very important for the recovery of New Zealand and
rebuilding.

John Morgan, CEO of NIWA and
The head of the CRI’s top body, Science New Zealand, said:
“This is a timely and most welcomed investment in
CRI. This recognizes our key role in helping New Zealand
restore and rebuild.

“Direct support from
CRI Covid-19 Response and Recovery funds $ 45 million
this year and $ 72 million next year will help overcome it
financial pressure caused by Covid-19
situation.

“The government is also improving
Funding for Strategic Science Investment Funding (SSIF)
programs with $ 19.5 million per year and nationally
Database and Significant Collection (NSDBC) the CRIs
servants of $ 3 million per year.

“A sudden decline
and an uncertain future comes at a long-term cost
pressure. It places a critical and risk research program
advance the facilities needed by our staff. Now we can plan
with more certainty. This will help support our science
the ability to overcome short-term and long-term problems
New Zealand’s needs, as the nation has recovered
rebuild.

“This investment is also important for us
partners in the public, private, NGO and Maori sectors. That
CRI exists in every region in New Zealand. We touch every New
New Zealanders every day in several ways, through our work all over the world
economic, environmental and social arenas. Our work helps
creating new jobs, increasing productivity and sustainability
and developing new products, processes and
opportunity. “

The government has also allocated
fund two main capital projects to compensate for delays or
work stoppage: $ 45 million to enable AgResearch
Development of the Lincoln Facility is progressing though
financial impact COVID-19; and $ 25 million for ESR for that
Rebuilding Kenepuru (Porirua) Property.
