“Rain is growing ahead from the front during Saturday afternoons and evenings over Fiordland and Westland,” MetService said on Facebook.

“Sunday saw the cold front move to the South Island, with strong northwestern winds developing in front of the front, and at midnight the front was thought to be located close to the Cook Strait. On the southwestern front, wind arrows indicate a change to a strong cold southwestern wind .

“Monday saw the front lying close to Gisborne by morning, and the cool southwestern area covering most of New Zealand on Monday afternoon.”
