It has been a year since we brought WhiskeyCast to New Zealand for the first time performing the DramFest Whiskey Galore in Christchurch just before the Covid-19 pandemic closed worldwide travel. Since then, more distilleries have operated in New Zealand, with 19 distilleries now making whiskeys. Today, distillers have come together to create a set of standards that define New Zealand whiskey – with the aim of protecting whiskey and the country’s native culture. Tash McGill of Distilled Spirits Aotearoa (real New Zealand name) joins us this week at WhiskeyCast In-Depth to share that story. In the news, there is a truce in the trade war between the US and Europe, although American whiskey makers still denounce their export tariffs. We’ll have that story and more, including the unique methods of the award-winning master blender and Whiskey Club of the Month in March.
