“Together three companies have been targeted by 10 suspected arson attacks throughout Auckland over the past six weeks, out of a total of 14 attacks throughout New Zealand including Wellington and the Northland region, causing damage and disruption to critical cell site infrastructure, “according to the TCF statement.
The attack on the cell tower is mainly driven by 5G conspiracy a theory that claims that the 5G network is somewhat detrimental to human health and causes mental health problems. Interestingly, some conspiracy theorists even believe that the 5G network is somehow linked to the spread of COVID-19.
“We are concerned that telecommunications infrastructure will be the target of criminal damage. Not only is this very dangerous, it also has the potential to cause major disruption to local communities, schools and businesses, “said Geoff Thorn, TCF chief executive.
Last month, the top four mobile operators in the UK issued a joint statement asking people to stop burning telecommunications towers. Some people in the UK are targeting cell towers recently because conspiracy theories connect them to spread corona virus in England. Thanks to this 5G theory, some citizens really threaten cellular engineers. Although there is no scientific evidence linking the two, some posts on social media about these theories have spread like wildfire.
According to a report by the BBC, some theorists “claim that 5G – which is used in cellphone networks and relies on signals carried by radio waves – is somehow responsible for coronaviruses.” The report further states that these theories are broadly divided into two categories: “One 5G claim can suppress the immune system, thus making people more susceptible to viruses. Others suggest the virus can somehow be transmitted through the use of 5G technology. ”
