Air New Zealand plans to make nearly 1500 redundant cabin crew employees as the airline struggles to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an email sent to staff Thursday afternoon and quoted by Newshub, employees were told up to 1460 cabin crew members could lose their jobs.
“We know time is not on our side because we only burn less than $ 14 million a month in crew salary costs,” the email said.
Cabin crew jobs on the line:
- Airbus A320 cabin crew: Up to 300
- Wide body cabin cabin of the entire Boeing 787 and 777 fleet: Up to 950
- Regional crews of all ATR and Q300 aircraft: Up to 210
Last month, the Government and Air NZ approved a debt financing agreement in the form of a 24-month commercial loan of up to $ 900 million.
