New Zealand Weather: Queen’s Birthday Weekend is destroyed by heavy rain for three days| Instant News

But for Kiwis who want to travel across the country on the Queen’s Birthday weekend, that of course dampens a lot of things.

“We have an arrangement where northeastern sub-tropical flows can produce slow moving rain bands over three days of long weekends in some parts of northern New Zealand,” said Weather Watch forecasters Philip Duncan.

“The general rule is that the upper North Island has the highest risk of clouds, rain and rain area set-in, while the lower North Island and most of the South Island lean completely dry or at least drier.”

NIWA Weather says there is a possibility of thunderstorms over a long weekend.
