Comment: “Moeraki stones are unusual large, round stones that lie along the expanse of Koekohe Beach. They appear scattered as either isolated or clustered. The act of erosion by mudstone waves shows large rocks embedded. Local Maori legend believes that the large stones are the remains of eel baskets that were stranded on the beach from a large sampan carcass.
