Islamabad, June 1

Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition submitted by the Sindh government to suspend a high court ruling that overturned the sentence against al-Qaida leader Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and three of his aides in the kidnapping and murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl.

Pearl, the 38-year-old South Asia bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal, was kidnapped and beheaded while he was in Pakistan investigating a 2002 story about alleged links between ISI and al-Qaida. – PTI
