A senior Pakistani MP died of a heart attack on Tuesday morning, just weeks after recovering from COVID-19, his family was confirmed in local media.
Munir Khan Orakzai, 61, elected to the National Assembly, Pakistan’s lower house of parliament, in 2018, contracted the corona virus in April but recovered, local broadcaster ARY News reported, citing family members.
He was rushed to hospital after a heart attack on Monday night but did not survive, the family said.
He is a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, one of the main religious parties in the country, and was elected as a member of the National Assembly from the Orakzai district in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Last month, Orakzai collapsed during a parliamentary session, reportedly due to low blood pressure.
President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, and Chair of the Asad National Assembly were among several officials to express their condolences for the death of the MP.
