ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday watched doctors and paramedical staff infected with the corona virus across the country while treating Covid-19 patients, ARY News reported.

According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan has called in an emergency plan from the relevant authorities to protect medics from Covid-19.

Officials from the Ministry of Health and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will notify the prime minister about plans to protect doctors from being infected with COVID-19.

It must be noted that doctors and paramedical staff have been at the forefront in the battle against the new corona virus.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of National Health and Emergency Services, the number of health workers affected by coronavirus in Pakistan has reached 2,193 because 23 of them have lost battle against infections so far.

At least 139 were more positive than the virus on Monday while two of them died because of it during the past 24 hours.

A total of 333 nurses have also contracted the infection because they treated the frontline virus patients. Overall 628 paramedics have been affected by new coronaviruses in the country, the report shows.

It further shows that 196 health workers are still treated for infection across the country in hospitals with seven of them on ventilators because of their critical health conditions.

“1185 of them went into exile in their homes,” he said when 789 health workers were sent home after recovering from an infection.

Last week, SAPM Mirza said that the government was planning hiring retired government doctors under a contract to reduce the scarcity of doctors and paramedics in the country amid an ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
