ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly began the session on Friday with a stern warning from Chairman Asad Qaiser for members to closely observe social distance, but the house shortened its agenda for the day due to the death of a member, Muneer Orakzai.
During the trial, the two sides of the island agreed to hold discussions on five main issues identified by the opposition – the Covid-19 pandemic, the Karachi air crash, grasshopper attack, sugar investigation report and the privatization program.
At the beginning of the session, the members welcomed Speaker Qaiser, who led his first session after recovering from Covid-19. The speaker acknowledges with a nod at the pulsating table by members.
Speaking from his personal experience, the speaker denounced the members, who did not observe social distance prevention measures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued for the home process.
‘Your own enemy’
King Pervez Ashraf of the opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) pointed to violations of social distance, questioning the attitude of some elected members from home despite the fact that the session was held in “extraordinary circumstances”.
The speaker explained to the members the importance of preventive measures but later the speaker reprimanded Rana Sanaullah and Junaid Akbar for ignoring his comments. “Anyone who wants to talk can get out,” he told lawmakers.
He said that he and his family had a hard time. “Why do members want to be their own enemies? If this is his attitude, I will postpone the hearing, “he warned. “Today is a condolence meeting. I will strictly follow the SOP at the next meeting. “
Because of the death of National Assembly member Munir Orakzai, the agenda was postponed at the beginning of the session. Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali said a prayer for the soul of Orakzai, a deceased member of the provincial assembly, a PIA plane crash and the Quetta tragedy.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Asad Qaiser, Khawaja Asif, Babar Awan, King Pervez Ashraf, Maulana Asad Mahmood praised the political services of Munir Orakzai, who died earlier this week after suffering a massive heart attack.
During the trial, the government and the opposition agreed to discuss five issues raised by the Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan’s Muslim-Nawaz League leader Khawaja Asif said that a coronavirus pandemic, sugar scandal, plane crash should be discussed at home.
For discussion, Asif proposed an old system of debate in which the government responded in policy statements after the opposition spoke. The house should not be turned into a spectacle with alternating speeches, “he said.
“Speeches that repeatedly make a fuss. People affected by coronavirus shouldn’t get the impression of division in this house, “he added. “The old method must be restored by removing the replacement speech by members of the government and opposition members.”
Raja Pervez Ashraf supports Khawaja Asif. Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Prime Minister’s Adviser for Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan also supported discussions on the main issues in the DPR.
“The sugar commission report, which is opposed by the opposition, has been issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan,” Awan told the house. “If five issues are raised by opposition leaders, then five ministers must answer,” he added.
The speaker said that the strategy for the home debate on these issues will succeed on Monday in consultation with the government and opposition members. In accordance with home tradition, due to the collapse of Orakzai, the meeting was postponed until Monday without completing its agenda.
